Rev your engines for the 3rd Annual Wayzata Charity Car Show!

Alright, car lovers and curious onlookers, mark your calendars for Sunday, Sept. 15. The 3rd Annual Wayzata Charity Car Show is back, and it’s shaping up to be a wild ride from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Here’s the deal: This event was resurrected in 2022 by Wayzata Masonic Lodge No. 205, and in just a couple of years, it’s already become a must-see. It started with about 65 cars, then doubled that last year. This time around? The sky’s the limit.

What’s on display? Everything. We’re talking about the classics, like early 1900s Ford Model T’s, all the way to modern Ferraris that look like they could fly. Trucks, motorcycles, and specialty vehicles—if it’s got wheels and an engine, it’s probably going to be there.

It’s totally free. But, in true community spirit, you can throw in a free-will donation. Why? Because all the cash goes straight to good causes—like local high school scholarships and educational reading programs.

But wait, there’s more (as always). It’s not just about ogling cars. There’ll be food trucks dishing out all your favorites, live music to keep the energy high, and a bunch of trophies for the standout rides. Best in show, people’s choice—whatever your jam is, there’s an award for it.

Pro tip: Start your day with the Wayzata Fire Department’s annual Firefighter Pancake Breakfast just two blocks from the car show. Pancakes, syrup, and community vibes? Yes, please.

Look, this isn’t just another car show—it’s a full-on community hangout that brings together gearheads, families, and anyone who’s up for a good time. If last year’s any indication, this one’s going to be bigger and better. So don’t sleep on it—get downtown and be part of something awesome.

📍The action will be on Lake Street East and Minnetonka Avenue South.

Breaking into Law Enforcement? Plymouth’s Got a New Cadet Program That Could Be Your Ticket In

if you’ve got your sights set on becoming a police officer. Plymouth just rolled out an all-new Police Cadet program, and it’s designed to fast-track you into the force.

Here’s the play: As a police cadet, you’re getting college tuition assistance to knock out that two-year law enforcement degree. Plus, you’re working a paid, part-time gig as a Community Service Officer in Plymouth—flexible hours, real experience, and cash in your pocket.

The endgame? After two years, you’re teed up to slide right into a full-time police officer role, pending an opening and you meeting the qualifications. It’s like a job offer with a two-year runway.

Now, this isn’t just a Plymouth thing. It’s part of the West Metro Police Cadet Program, a multi-agency deal that’s all about creating opportunities for future cops. Edina, Eden Prairie, St. Louis Park, and Minnetonka are all in on this too. So, you’re part of something bigger—more connections, more resources.

Here’s what Plymouth is bringing to the table:

  • Tuition assistance: Up to $16,500 per year for two years at an approved law enforcement program. That’s serious help toward getting that degree.

  • Paid, part-time role: About 20 hours a week, working Community Service Officer duties. It’s real-world experience, and you’re getting paid to learn.

  • Mentorship: You’ll be paired with a police officer who’s going to show you the ropes—everything from department values to handling the gear. It’s like having a coach to guide you through the early stages of your career.

Here’s a summary of the wages and benefits…

  • 2024 pay: $24.38-$31.54

  • Cadets receive employer-paid medical, dental and life insurance.

  • Uniforms and equipment provided.

  • Opportunities for interdepartmental trainings involving other cadets from surrounding agencies.

…and a list of qualifications:

  • 18 years or older

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Successful completion of background check

  • Enrolled or accepted into a Minnesota accredited two-year law enforcement program within six months of cadet program admittance

  • Must meet school performance criteria set forth by the Plymouth Police Department (2.5 GPA, class attendance, workload, etc.)

So, if you’re serious about law enforcement and want a leg up, this program is your shot. The path is laid out for you—education, experience, mentorship, and a job waiting at the end of it. Get in while you can.

"A House Divided" Premieres at Blue Water Theatre Over Labor Day Weekend

Theater buffs, mark your calendars because A House Divided, a brand-new play that’s been five years in the making, is about to drop at Blue Water Theatre Company this Labor Day weekend. Co-written and directed by Phi Hamens Nelson and Carmen Chávez, this one’s going to hit hard.

Here’s the deal: You’ve got performances lined up on August 30, 31, and September 1, 6, 7, and 8—all at 7 p.m. If you want to get deeper into the minds of the creators and cast, stick around for the post-show Q&A after the August 30th performance. And if matinees are more your speed, check out the noon shows on September 1 and 8—yep, there’ll be Q&As after those too.

So what’s this play about? A House Divided follows Sharon Anderson as she gets tangled up in the emotional landmine that is her husband Andrew’s estranged family. It’s got all the makings of high drama—familial conflict, emotional scars, and decisions that could either heal or destroy. Sharon’s caught in the middle of rising tensions, trying to hold it together, but also feeling the pull of her darker impulses.

The cast includes heavy hitters like Alyssa Rae, Christopher Roddy, Carmen Christine ChĂĄvez, Phi Hamens Nelson, Orvie Baker Jr., and Nancy Phinney. Expect some top-tier performances.

Heads-up: This play comes with a content warning—there’s strong language and themes of abuse, so be prepared for some intense moments.

Want to follow the behind-the-scenes action? Hit them up on Instagram @house_divided_cast and on Facebook at A House Divided. This is one you won’t want to miss if you’re into deep stories that cut to the bone.
