πŸ“’ TALK OF THE TOWN

Bjorn Cycling sets up a Shaver Park bike clinic β€” free tune-ups May 2

If your bike has been hanging in the garage since last fall with a slow leak, a wobbly seat, and that one mystery click you've been ignoring β€” Wayzata's about to make this a lot easier.

Bjorn Cycling is setting up shop in Shaver Park this summer with a seasonal bike repair station, parked right by the Dakota Rail Regional Trail sign. It's a simple tent setup, but the idea is gold: roll up mid-ride, get the click diagnosed, learn how to fix it yourself next time, keep pedaling.

Here's how it works. Minor repairs are available for a fee. Maintenance education sessions β€” the kind where you actually learn what a derailleur is and why yours is mad at you β€” are complimentary. Bring your bike, your questions, and maybe a friend who's been meaning to figure out their gears too.

The schedule scales with the season:

  • May: Saturdays, 2:00–5:00 p.m.

  • June through October: Saturdays, 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

And to launch the whole thing, Bjorn is hosting a free bike tune-up day on Saturday, May 2 from 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. at Shaver Park. Multi-point inspections, minor tune-ups, safety checks β€” the works. No charge, no appointment, just show up with the bike.

Translation: the Dakota Rail Regional Trail just got a pit crew. Your "I should really fix that" bike has officially run out of excuses.

See you in Shaver Park.

Three free Fridays at the Hilde, starting June 12

Plymouth's summer concert calendar just got a free tier β€” and honestly, it's kind of stacked.

Hilde Nights kicks off Friday, June 12 from 6–10 p.m. at the Hilde Performance Center, and the bar for entry is exactly zero dollars. Bring a blanket, bring a lawn chair, bring cash or card for the food trucks and beverages, and that's the entire packing list.

The opening night lineup leans loud and nostalgic. The Mallrats are headlining with a setlist built for '90s rock sing-alongs β€” the kind where you'll absolutely know every word and pretend you don't. The Cole Allen Band opens with contemporary blues and rock, and Sena Ehrhardt rounds out the bill.

Three nights total on the 2026 series, and the curation is doing some work:

  • Friday, July 17 (6–10 p.m.) β€” Kat Perkins Country Roads Band brings the country crowd-pleasers, with the Nathan Dean Band opening on country, rock, and pop favorites.

  • Friday, August 28 (6–10 p.m.) β€” The Holy Rocka Rollaz open with classic early Rock 'n' Roll, then the Fabulous Armadillos hit the stage doing what they do best: hopping genres mid-set β€” country, Motown, heavy metal, '70s soft rock, all of it.

A heads up: if the weather looks dicey, call the cancellation hotline at 763-509-5205 before you pack the car.

Three Fridays. Zero ticket prices. One lawn that knows how to handle a crowd.

Wayzata PD's summer Lake Street plan: more eyes, fewer revving engines

If you've ever stood on Lake Street and watched a car treat the lakefront like a drag strip, you're not alone β€” and the Wayzata Police Department has heard you. Loud and clear.

Here's what's changing this summer, broken down by what it actually means for you.

More patrols β€” and not always the ones you can see. Officers are running focused patrols on Lake Street targeting excessively loud vehicles, rapid acceleration, and the kind of "look at me" driving that turns a relaxing evening into a teeth-clench. New wrinkle: the department is now using an unmarked vehicle for traffic enforcement, which means just because you don't see a squad car doesn't mean nothing's happening. Stops may also occur a block or two away from where the violation was spotted β€” that's intentional, both for officer safety and to avoid creating a second hazard on an already busy corridor.

More boots on the ground at peak times. The department has authorized overtime staffing Wednesday through Sunday evenings all summer. On top of that, two new Community Service Officers start in May, adding a visible presence on Lake Street.

You're part of the plan. Officers can't be everywhere, especially when calls pull them across the city. If you safely catch a license plate, video, or photo of a violation, call 952-258-5321 and ask to speak with an officer. The PD can follow up after the fact β€” these reports actually matter.

None of this fixes Lake Street overnight. But the city's making it clear: the strip is for everyone, not just the loudest car on it.
