📢 TALK OF THE TOWN

🌳 Arbor Month Is Going Out With a (Tree) Bang

Wayzata’s Energy & Environment Committee is throwing an Arbor Day bash on Friday, May 31 from 12–2 p.m. at Depot Park—and trust us, it’s more than just tree talk.

Bring the kids for a nature-themed scavenger hunt, swing by for talks on pollinator gardens and native landscaping, and maybe even snag a rare seedling or two (we’re talking Witch-hazel and Bladdernut-level rare). First come, first served!

At 1 p.m., Arbor Hill Tree Farm will plant a giant American Elm using a spade truck—because what’s a tree party without heavy machinery?

🌿 Bonus: Tree Care Discounts Are Sprouting Up
Healthy trees = happy yards. Wayzata has teamed up with Rainbow Treecare to offer residents discounts on treatments for pesky problems like Emerald Ash Borer, Oak Wilt, and more.

Want to get ahead of the next bug invasion?

Visit rainbowtreecare.com/cities/wayzata for the full scoop.

🚒 Now Hiring: Part-Time Firefighting Heroes

The Plymouth Fire Department is on the lookout for a few good neighbors to join their paid part-time/on-call firefighter crew.

No cape? No problem. No experience? Even better—they’ll train you.

Flexible for working professionals and parents, this role lets you serve your city and still make it home for dinner.

Training is paid, the schedule is designed to fit real life, and the benefits go beyond the paycheck.

🧯 Why Join?

  • Learn life-saving, real-world skills

  • Earn an hourly wage (even during training)

  • Work out of two brand-new fire stations

  • Build a pension and even defer up to 100% of wages to retirement

  • Oh—and you’ll make lifelong friendships along the way

Sound interesting?

You’ll want to attend one of the upcoming recruitment meetings at Fire Station 2 (12000 Old Rockford Road) on Thursday, June 5 or June 12 at 6:30 p.m. Bring your questions—and your significant other.

As Assistant Fire Chief Steve Baker puts it:

“Becoming a firefighter may sound daunting, but people are often surprised to find that it isn’t. We teach you everything you need to know.”

📝 Applications are open now through Sunday, June 29.
Apply or learn more at plymouthmn.gov/firefighter, or call 763-509-5129 and leave a message. Someone from the department will get back to you.

🏆 Wayzata’s Hotel Landing Named One of the Best Resorts in the Midwest

Travel + Leisure dropped its annual “Best Resorts in the Midwest” list—and three Minnesota gems made the cut, including one right here in Wayzata.

Coming in at #6, The Hotel Landing joins Larsmont Cottages in Two Harbors (#2) and Madden’s on Gull Lake in Brainerd (#3) on the prestigious reader-ranked list.

Located right on Wayzata Bay, The Hotel Landing blends modern luxury with lake town charm. Think: coastal-inspired dining ay ninetwentyfive, love music, and an in-house spa that knows how to make your stress vanish.

As for the other Minnesota standouts:

  • Larsmont Cottages sits on 1,300 feet of Lake Superior shoreline, complete with a Finnish sauna and scenic trails.

  • Madden’s on Gull Lake spans 1,000 acres and features three championship golf courses, including the iconic "The Classic."

So if you're thinking summer getaway—or a fancy staycation—you’ve got nationally recognized options right in your backyard.

🐾 Brew Park’s Going Small—on Purpose

Got a pint-sized pup with a big personality?

Brew Park in Plymouth is officially launching Small Dog Hangouts—a special hour where only dogs under 30 pounds are allowed to roam the park, free from the zoomies of their bigger cousins.

🗓️ When: Saturday, 10–11 a.m.
📍 Where: Brew Park, 2605 Fernbrook Ln N
💸 Cost: $10 (covers entry)

🐶 Bonus: You and your small dog are welcome to stick around after the dedicated hour ends. Just make sure you complete the registration and consent form before attending.

This one's been highly requested, and now it’s happening. So if your dog’s more lap-sized than lumbering, this is their time to shine.
