Plymouth Parks & Rec Seeks a Student Voice on Its Advisory Commission

Here’s a chance for local students to have a say in shaping the future of Plymouth’s parks, trails, and recreation programs.

The City of Plymouth is seeking applications for a student commissioner to join the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission (PRAC). This group reviews plans and proposals for the city’s parks and recreation system, forwarding recommendations to the City Council for final approval.

The position is open to high school juniors and seniors who live in Plymouth, and the term runs with the school year. Meetings are typically held six times a year on the second Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at City Hall (3400 Plymouth Blvd). The new student commissioner will attend their first meeting on Thursday, Nov. 13.

Students interested in applying are also encouraged to sit in on the upcoming PRAC meeting on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. to see the group in action.

Application deadline: Monday, Sept. 15

It’s not every day that high school students get a direct seat at the table in city government. This opportunity offers real-world experience in civic engagement — while helping shape the parks and programs thousands of Plymouth residents enjoy.

Try Euro Handball for Free in Plymouth on Sept. 13

Looking for a new activity to get kids moving this fall? Plymouth is offering a free Euro Handball Open House on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 1–2 p.m. at the Plymouth Community Center gym (14800 34th Ave. N.).

The session is geared toward kids ages 8–11 who want to test out European Handball — a fast-paced team sport where two sides compete to score the most goals. The open house is a no-pressure introduction: bring tennis shoes and a water bottle, and the city provides the rest. No registration required.

For families who like what they see, the official program runs Oct. 12–Nov. 16. That series will teach the fundamentals of handball while encouraging teamwork, cooperation, and physical activity. (Activity code #33217-01 for registration.)

It’s not every day you stumble across a new sport in town. This free event is a low-key way for kids to explore Euro Handball, burn off energy, and maybe even find their new favorite game.

Plymouth Launches 2025 Community Survey

Plymouth wants to know what residents think about life in the city — and they’re asking directly.

Starting in early September, the City of Plymouth is partnering with Polco/National Research Center to conduct its 2025 community survey. The survey gathers resident feedback on quality of life, public safety, customer service, and more.

Here’s how it works:

  • Mailed survey: About 4,000 randomly selected households will receive a postcard, followed by a full survey packet with instructions and a postage-paid return envelope. Selected households can complete the survey either on paper or online using the provided link.

  • Open online survey: For those not selected in the mailing, an online version will be open to all residents starting Tuesday, Sept. 30 at plymouthmn.gov/survey.

The results will be shared with the City Council at a future meeting and published online. Plymouth conducts a communitywide survey every three years, with past surveys completed in 2019 and 2022. The consistent cycle helps city leaders track trends in resident feedback and make data-driven decisions.

Surveys like this give residents a real voice in shaping city priorities. Whether it’s parks, safety, or city services, the input gathered directly influences how Plymouth invests in the future.
