📢 TALK OF THE TOWN

Honoring the Legacy of Former Public Safety Director Mike Goldstein
The City of Plymouth is mourning the loss of former Public Safety Director and Police Chief Mike Goldstein, who passed away on Tuesday, May 20, following a medical incident.
Goldstein was more than a leader—he was the heart of public safety in Plymouth for over 30 years.
“Mike leaves behind a lasting and unmatched legacy,” said current Public Safety Director/Police Chief Erik Fadden, who served alongside him for 16 years. “He inspired everyone who met him – a true servant leader whose contributions to public safety will be felt for years to come.”
Goldstein’s journey with the city began as a Police Explorer in 1984—just a high school student passionate about serving his hometown. He became one of the first Plymouth Police Reserves, and in 1990, officially joined the Plymouth Police Department. Over the years, he rose through the ranks—sergeant in ’94, lieutenant in ’01, captain in ’03, police chief in ’04, and finally, Public Safety Director in 2015, overseeing both Police and Fire departments.
His retirement in 2021 marked the end of an extraordinary chapter—but his impact continues to ripple through the department and community.
In his honor, flags across Plymouth have been lowered to half-staff. Our deepest condolences go out to the Goldstein family during this difficult time.

Free Plant Swap in Plymouth: Bring a Pot, Leave with a New Plant Baby
Green thumbs and garden newbies, rejoice—Plymouth’s annual Plant Swap is back and blooming with possibilities.
🗓 Monday, June 2
🕓 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
📍 Plymouth Maintenance Facility (14900 23rd Ave N)
Here’s how it works:
Bring your extra perennials, label them with their common names, and swap ‘em out for new-to-you plants from fellow gardeners. Got spare seeds, tools, pots, or garden books collecting dust? Those are fair game too.
It’s totally free—and a fun way to freshen up your yard, garden, or windowsill lineup.
👀 Heads-up: Keep an eye out for jumping worms (yes, that’s a real thing). These invasive earthworms wreak havoc on soil and roots. Learn more at the Minnesota DNR website.
Questions? Call City Forester Paul Buck at 763-509-5944. He’s your plant guy.
