📢 TALK OF THE TOWN

A Legacy in the Woods: Schmidt Woods Park Opens in Plymouth

Plymouth’s newest park, Schmidt Woods Park, officially opened its gates with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 29.

Nestled in the Hollydale Neighborhood Development, this scenic park honors Rodger “Pete” Schmidt, who generously donated nearly three acres of land a decade ago. The Schmidt family had owned the land since 1883, using it to collect sap from sugar maple trees—a tradition the city plans to carry on through educational programs.

The park features picturesque walking trails, a picnic shelter, and a playground with charming wooden structures. A highlight is the sugar house, a nod to the Schmidt family’s maple syruping legacy.

Schmidt passed away in 2021, but his love for this land lives on. As the city of Plymouth stated, his gift ensures future generations can enjoy the beauty and history of these woods.

Schmidt Woods Park is just the latest addition to Plymouth’s growing network of green spaces. The Meadows Playfield is under construction on Peony Lane N, and work is set to begin in 2026 on enhancements to the recreation area near Lake Camelot.

Take a stroll, pack a picnic, or explore the playground—and experience the legacy of a family’s deep connection to the land.

Changing of the Guard: Alex Plechash to Lead Minnesota Republicans

The Minnesota Republican Party welcomed new leadership on Saturday, December 14, 2024, as Wayzata City Councilor Alex Plechash was elected Chair by the State Central Committee.

Outgoing Chair David Hann, who served in the role for three years, confirmed the decision and shared his gratitude for the opportunity to lead.

“It has been an honor to serve the Republican Party these past three years,” Hann stated. “We’ve made great progress, retiring longstanding debt and positioning ourselves for success in 2026.”

As Plechash steps into the role, the committee also elected Donna Bergstrom as Vice Chair, narrowly defeating Kip Christensen by five votes.

With the transition of leadership, the Minnesota Republican Party aims to build on its foundation and prepare for the future.
