📢 TALK OF THE TOWN

Brew Park's Halloween Dog Costume Contest: $500 in Prizes
Finally, a legitimate excuse to buy that ridiculous dog costume you've been eyeing at Target for three weeks.
Brew Park's hosting their annual Halloween Doggy Costume Contest on Thursday, Oct. 30 from 6:30-9 p.m. (2605 Fernbrook Ln N, Plymouth), and this year they're upping the game with two categories and $500 in total cash prizes. Category one: "Best Human & Dog Duo Costume" where both your outfits get judged ($300 cash plus a $20 Brew Park gift card). Category two: "Best Dog Costume" where only your pup's outfit counts ($200 cash plus a $20 gift card). You can only enter one category, so choose your strategy wisely.
Here's the timeline: 6:30-7:15 p.m. is check-in and hangout time (grab food, drinks, socialize). 7:15-7:30 p.m. is costume prep if your dog isn't dressed yet. Then comes the parade portion – 7:30-7:45 p.m. for duo costumes, 7:45-8 p.m. for solo dog costumes. You'll walk the park perimeter one by one past the judges' table for a quick photo. Winners announced around 8:15 p.m.
New this year: a bar stationed right in the park, so you don't have to abandon your beverage to refresh it. Plus mystery goodie bags for participants while supplies last, because who doesn't love a surprise?
Tickets are $20 for non-members, $10 for Brew Park members (both include park admission). Pre-register your dog at brewparkplymouth.com/registration-form to avoid check-in hassle.
Oct. 30, 6:30-9 p.m. Where dogs in costumes compete for cash and everyone wins.

Plymouth's Pumpkin Drop: Where Your Dead Decorations Become Farm Animal Feasts
Your porch pumpkins served their purpose through Halloween. Now they get a second life feeding actual creatures instead of rotting on your stoop.
Plymouth's hosting Pumpkin Drop from Nov. 1-16 at the Plymouth Maintenance Facility parking lot (14900 23rd Ave. N), and it's refreshingly simple: bring your old pumpkins, gourds, and apples, dump them in the designated dumpster on the west side of the building, and they'll be delivered to farm animals who actually want to eat them. It's the circle of life, suburban Minnesota edition.
Just remove any candles first to keep the animals safe – melted wax and farm critters don't mix. Painted pumpkins are fine though, so if you got artsy instead of carving this year, your creation can still feed someone. Look for the dumpster with the Pumpkin Drop sign, toss your gourds, and feel good about keeping them out of the landfill.
Two weeks to clean up your fall decor and contribute to local farms simultaneously. It's the kind of practical environmental action that doesn't require a committee meeting or lifestyle changes – just drive over, dump pumpkins, done.
Nov. 1-16 at Plymouth Maintenance Facility (14900 23rd Ave. N). Your Halloween leftovers, their winter snacks.

Plymouth's Drive-Thru Veterans Breakfast: Free Food, Zero Parking Hassles
Mark your calendars, Plymouth vets – the city's throwing you a breakfast party, and you don't even have to get out of your car.
Plymouth's hosting a free drive-thru breakfast for veterans on Thursday, Nov. 6 from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Plymouth Veterans Memorial (3400 Plymouth Blvd). We're talking breakfast sandwich, fresh fruit, Caribou coffee or tea, plus a small thank-you gift. The catch? You've got to live in Plymouth and register by Oct. 30. Want to bring your non-veteran spouse, friend, or neighbor? That's $12 (limit one guest per veteran – can't bring the whole block).
The logistics are simple: drive through City Hall's parking lot, cruise over to the Veterans Memorial, and collect your goodies without leaving your driver's seat. It's like the world's most wholesome drive-thru experience, minus the guilt of ordering fast food at 10 a.m.
Plymouth knows how to say thank you properly – with good coffee, actual food, and zero parking hassles. November 6, 9:30-11 a.m. Be there (in your car).
Register by Oct. 30 at plymouthmn.gov/specialevents or call 763-509-5200.

Plymouth Library Book Sale: Where $5 Buys an Entire Bag of Reading Material
If you've been eyeing your overflowing bookshelves thinking "I should clear these out," here's your perfect excuse – and your next haul.
Friends of the Plymouth Library is hosting a used book sale on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Plymouth Library (15700 36th Ave N), and the pricing is almost too good: individual items run 50¢ to $2, but from 2-3 p.m., you can fill entire shopping bags for just $5 per bag. We're talking books, puzzles, games, DVDs, and CDs – basically everything you need to survive Minnesota winter without leaving your house. All proceeds benefit the library and Friends programs, so your book hoarding actually helps the community.
Early birds who are Friends members get exclusive 9-10 a.m. access (you can join at the door if you're not already), then it opens to everyone at 10 a.m. Payment options include cash, check, and Venmo because apparently even library book sales have entered the digital age.
If you're on the other side of this equation and need to clear space, they're accepting donations on Saturday, Nov. 1 from 10:30 a.m. to noon and Friday, Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the library meeting room. Gently used adult and children's books, DVDs, CDs, and jigsaw puzzles welcome. No textbooks, encyclopedias, or anything involving tape (video or audio).
Stock your winter reading list, clear your shelves, support your library. The circle of book life continues.
Nov. 15, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Plymouth Library. Questions? Email [email protected].
