📢 TALK OF THE TOWN

Wayzata’s Bakery Scene Gets a Delicious Upgrade

Another bite of good news is heading to Lake Street this summer: Rustica Bakery is opening a new spot in the former Wuollet Bakery location.

If you’ve missed the smell of fresh bread wafting down the block since Wuollet and Penny’s Coffee closed, this one’s for you. The team behind Rustica—now owned by local hospitality group Jester Concepts—is stepping in to fill the pastry-shaped hole in our hearts (and our mornings).

The new Rustica will be a cozy 1,600-square-foot cafe with indoor seating for 30 and patio space for sunny scone sessions. Expect the same sleek vibes as their Minneapolis and Edina outposts.

On the menu: Rustica’s signature lineup of fresh bread, pastries, and coffee. And once they’re settled in? More savory options are on the horizon.

“We feel there’s a strong demand for Rustica’s offerings and we’re excited to provide a new gathering space for the neighborhood,” says Brent Frederick, owner of Jester Concepts (aka the crew behind Parlour, Borough, and P.S. Steak).

Oh—and in case you’re wondering what’s happening with the former flagship Wuollet in Minneapolis? Word is it’s turning into a nail salon.

Fresh carbs in Wayzata, fresh coats in the city. Everybody wins.

Yank It to Win It: Plymouth’s Garlic Mustard Showdown

Plymouth is throwing down the gardening gauntlet—and yes, you’re invited to help rip out the enemy: garlic mustard.

On Saturday, May 17 from 9–11 a.m., residents will battle it out across four local parks in The Great Garlic Mustard Challenge—a friendly (but serious) competition to see who can yank the most of this invasive weed in two hours flat.

The battlegrounds:

  • Schmidt Lake Park

  • West Medicine Lake Park

  • Parkers Lake Park

  • Green Tree Island Park

Never pulled a weed in your life? No worries. No experience necessary—just bring your gardening gloves, a water bottle, and a can-do attitude.

Why the fuss over a leafy green?
Garlic mustard might sound like a fancy sandwich topping, but it’s actually a super-aggressive invader. It hogs sunlight, moisture, and nutrients, kicking native plants (and the pollinators that rely on them) to the curb.

When you crush the leaves, it smells like garlic—hence the name—but don’t let the aroma fool you. If we don’t yank it out by the root, it comes back stronger.

Want to get in on the action (and maybe learn a little plant science along the way)? Sign up here.

We’ll bring the good vibes. You bring the gloves.

Big Changes Coming to 36th Ave — Here's What to Know

Starting Monday, April 21, it’s orange cones and detour signs for anyone traveling along 36th Avenue. The city just kicked off Phase 1 of a major rehab project that stretches from Zachary Lane to Highway 169, aiming to improve pavement and make the area safer for everyone—especially around schools.

How long will it last?
Construction is expected to run through November 2025 (weather permitting), so yeah—plan ahead.

Here’s what’s happening in Phase 1:
🚧 36th Ave will be closed from Zachary Lane/East Medicine Lake Blvd to Armstrong High School.

Detour routes are in place, but you’ll still be able to access nearby neighborhoods, Plymouth Middle School, and Armstrong High.

What else is getting done?

  • New trail construction

  • Pick-up/drop-off zone upgrades at Plymouth Middle

  • Roadway redesign from Pilgrim Ln to Lancaster Ln

  • Safer pedestrian crossings near both schools

Now might be a good time to explore that scenic backroad route you’ve been meaning to try.
