📢 TALK OF THE TOWN

Plymouth's Summer Rec Guide: Now With 30 Hidden $100 Music Notes

When a city gamifies their recreation guide by hiding $100 gift cards inside printed copies, that's one way to ensure people actually flip through instead of immediately recycling.

The Summer Parks & Recreation Activities Guide dropped online, featuring the usual sports, arts/crafts, music, fitness classes, and special events for all ages. But the printed version includes 30 randomly inserted blue music notes redeemable for $100 gift cards toward Plymouth Parks and Recreation, Plymouth Community Center, and Plymouth Ice Center activities. So if you get a physical copy in the mail, actually look through it before tossing – you might be holding money.

Registration opens staggered: Plymouth residents start Wednesday, March 18 at 6 a.m. online or 10 a.m. by phone/in person. Non-residents begin Wednesday, March 25 (same times). Aquatics classes open March 18 for everyone. It's the annual scramble to register for popular summer programs before they fill up, so set reminders if you're serious about specific classes.

The Parks & Rec app lets you register for programs, book facilities, manage rentals, and view account info without navigating the website. Download at plymouthmn.gov/recreation if you haven't already joined the mobile registration era.

View the full guide and register at plymouthmn.gov/recreation. And if you find a blue music note, congratulations – summer programming just got $100 cheaper.

ModernWell's Women's History Month: Where Five Authors Meet Small Bites and Actual Community

When a women-owned coworking space hosts five local authors, women-owned vendors, bubbly drinks, and builds in $5 book credit plus free coworking pass with admission, that's celebrating Women's History Month with substance.

ModernWell presents a Women's History Month celebration Thursday, March 12 from 6-8 p.m. at 985 Lake St E, Wayzata, featuring local authors Jess Lourey, Kathleen West, Erin White, Michelle Pohlad, and Sally Franson alongside local women-owned vendors. The evening's designed for connection and community in a space explicitly created to support and uplift women – not just token acknowledgment but actual platform for women creating, leading, and shaping what comes next.

Small bites and bubbly drinks included, plus warm atmosphere built for genuine conversation rather than forced networking. Come solo or bring friends – the setup accommodates both. Your ticket includes $5 credit toward book purchase and free coworking day pass at either ModernWell location, which means the event investment returns value beyond the evening itself.

It's the kind of Women's History Month event that goes beyond posting inspiring quotes on social media. Five authors with actual books, vendors with actual businesses, space designed for actual connection. Whether you're discovering new voices, supporting meaningful work, or just showing up for community, March 12 delivers.

Tickets at link below. Two hours to celebrate strength and spirit of women through books, business, and belonging.

Thursday, March 12, 6-8 p.m. at ModernWell (985 Lake St E, Wayzata).

Plymouth's State of the City: Where Civic Updates Meet Discover Plymouth Event

When a city embeds its annual address inside a larger community showcase event, that's strategic civic engagement – get people in the door for vendors and activities, deliver important updates while you have their attention.

Plymouth's State of the City returns Saturday, March 21 at 10 a.m. inside the Plymouth Community Center Fieldhouse dome (14800 34th Ave. N) as part of Discover Plymouth. The address covers the full civic spectrum: past year recap, development updates, park projects, city infrastructure, business news, completed projects – basically everything residents should know about what Plymouth's been doing and where it's headed.

The format includes Q&A with Plymouth City Council members, facilitated by Dave Kiser from CCX Media. So questions get asked and answered in real-time rather than through submitted forms that may or may not get responses. Then residents can stick around to actually meet council members instead of just watching them from audience seats.

Pairing the State of the City with Discover Plymouth means you're already there for local businesses, community groups, nonprofits, city departments, recreation programs, and activities – might as well catch the civic update too. Or vice versa: show up for the address, stay for the event.

One morning, one location, comprehensive city update plus full community showcase. March 21 at the dome.

Saturday, March 21, 10 a.m. at Plymouth Community Center Fieldhouse dome (14800 34th Ave. N). Part of Discover Plymouth event.

Cousins Maine Lobster Truck Hits Plymouth March 11 (Cards Only, App Ordering Smart)

When actual Maine lobster rolls up to Plymouth on a food truck, the smart move is knowing the payment and ordering logistics before you get there.

Cousins Maine Lobster returns to Plymouth on Wednesday, March 11 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and here's what matters: they only accept debit/credit cards and Apple Pay. No cash. Period. So leave your wallet full of twenties at home or you'll be that person awkwardly discovering this in line.

Better strategy: order ahead on their app to skip the line entirely. Mobile ordering opens at least one hour before each truck event (once the previous event finishes) and only works for day-of posted events. Sometimes mobile ordering gets limited or unavailable, but you can always order directly at the truck as backup. The app also earns points toward rewards, which matters if you're a repeat customer.

Menu's at cousinsmainelobster.com/locations/minneapolis-mn if you want to make decisions before arriving instead of holding up the line while debating between lobster roll variations. Eight hours of service means you've got flexibility on timing, but lunch and dinner rushes will probably hit hardest.

Maine lobster in Plymouth. One day. Cards only. App ordering recommended.
