Looking for a red-hot weekend plan? Join Minnetonka Fire for their Family Fun Day on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Fire Station 1 (14550 Minnetonka Blvd). Here’s what’s in store:
Meet the heroic firefighters who keep Minnetonka safe.
Climb aboard a real fire truck (cue the kids’ excitement!).
Savor some classic firehouse chili and warm cider.
Need a break? A sensory room will be available for a calm, quiet escape.
This free event is fun for the whole family, so grab the kiddos and make it a day to remember. Just one small note: no additional vendors are needed for this event.

Swing, Sip, and Sizzle at the 40th Wayzata Chilly Open!
Why book a flight south for winter golf when you can tee off on frozen Lake Minnetonka?
The Wayzata Chilly Open is back for its 40th year on Feb. 7 and 8, and this year’s theme, “Born in ’84,” promises all the neon, spandex, and Molly Ringwald vibes you can handle. Dust off your shoulder pads and get ready to hit the ice for the ultimate Minnesotan golf experience!
Here’s the lineup:
Feb. 7: Kick things off at the "Pre Par-Tee" inside the heated 19th Hole tent with beer, wine, live music, and good vibes.
Feb. 8: The main event! Tee times are at 10 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m. on a nine-hole frozen course where tennis balls are your golf balls, and hockey sticks are totally fair game.
Entry fees: $60 for amateurs (aka most of us). $115 for pros (think you’ve got what it takes?).
Afterward, head back to the 19th Hole tent for drinks and the Chili Cookoff Contest, featuring celebrity judges like Jason DeRusha, Billy Sushi, and Stephanie March.
More than 2,000 winter warriors come out every year for this frosty fundraiser supporting the Greater Wayzata Chamber of Commerce.
Don’t miss out—grab your clubs (or sticks) and hit the ice!

City of Plymouth Responds to Police Unions’ No Confidence Vote
On Jan. 13, Plymouth’s police officer and sergeant unions—Police Officer Local 18 and Sergeant Union 34—issued a letter of no confidence in Public Safety Director and Police Chief Erik Fadden.
The city released a statement addressing the concerns, emphasizing their unwavering support for the Public Safety Department, police leadership, and officers who serve the Plymouth community.
Chief Erik Fadden, a 20-year Plymouth Police Department veteran and longtime resident, has led the department since January 2021, with a focus on fostering teamwork, mutual respect, and day-to-day excellence.
In response to the broader challenges facing law enforcement, including recruitment and retention struggles, the city highlighted steps it has taken to support its police force:
Market salary adjustments negotiated with union representatives.
Expanded leave benefits and financial aid for education.
Wellness initiatives for mental and physical health.
A labor management committee to address issues collaboratively.
The city remains committed to working with union groups to address concerns while ensuring the safety and well-being of Plymouth residents.

Get a Behind-the-Scenes Look at Plymouth’s Winter Maintenance
Ever wonder how Plymouth keeps roads safe while protecting the environment? Here’s your chance to find out!
On Thursday, Jan. 30, from 2 to 5:30 p.m., head to the Plymouth Maintenance Facility (14900 23rd Ave. N) for the Winter Maintenance Open House. This free event is part of Winter Salt Awareness Week (Jan. 27-31) and offers a peek into the city’s eco-friendly winter maintenance practices.
Here’s what’s on the agenda:
Explore snowplows and anti-icing equipment up close.
Tour the salt brine-making building and learn how it works.
Discover how Plymouth balances effective snow removal with environmental care.
Light refreshments will be available (while supplies last), and the event is open to everyone in the community.
Important Note: If Mother Nature decides to dump snow that day, the event may be canceled or rescheduled as staff will be busy plowing. Check the city’s website (plymouthmn.gov) or social media for updates.
Don’t miss this chance to see how Plymouth tackles winter like a pro!
