📢 TALK OF THE TOWN

Wayzata's Jazz Scene Just Got a Trombone Upgrade (And Dave Graf's Behind It)
When a guy who's played with Aretha Franklin, Tony Bennett, and Harry Connick Jr. decides to assemble his jazz dream team in your backyard, you show up.
The Lineup: Dave Graf – the Twin Cities' most-wanted jazz trombonist and JazzMN regular – has rounded up some seriously talented friends for the Bone Chance Jazz Quintet. We're talking Doug Haining on alto sax, Adi Yeshaya on piano, Phil Hey on drums, and Matt Peterson on bass. If you know jazz, you know these names. If you don't, trust us – this is the real deal.
The Pedigree: Graf's résumé reads like a "Who's Who" of music royalty. Natalie Cole, Julie Andrews, Broadway shows – the man's played everything from pop to jazz to show tunes, and now he's bringing that talent to Plymouth.
The Details: Saturday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. at St. Barnabas Lutheran Church in Plymouth (15600 Old Rockford Road – new venue alert!). Show runs 75 minutes straight through, no intermission, because when the music's this good, why stop?
Tickets: $26 adults, $21 seniors, $16 students. Grab them at wayzatamusicales.org
Bottom Line: World-class jazz in Plymouth. Dave Graf on trombone. 75 minutes of pure musical talent. Saturday night sorted.
Major funding courtesy of Rotary Club of Wayzata – doing the lord's work for local jazz lovers.

Wayzata's Turning Halloween Into a Cardio Opportunity (Costumes Required)
Nothing says "October in Minnesota" quite like running through downtown Wayzata dressed as a hot dog while children chase candy around town.
The Setup: Wayzata's annual Boo Bash Dash hits Friday, Oct. 25, with certified 10K, 5K, and Competitive Lake Street Mile races, plus a fun run for anyone who prefers "participation" over "competition." Costumes aren't just encouraged – they're basically the whole point.
Post-Race Perks: Finish line festivities include a pumpkin derby (yes, racing pumpkins) and a costume contest, because if you're going to run in an inflatable dinosaur suit, you might as well get recognized for it.
The Bonus Round: Stick around for the Boo Blast Celebration afterward – aka organized trick-or-treating around downtown. It's like regular Halloween, but with better planning and probably less chaos.
Why This Works: Run with friends, wear ridiculous costumes, race pumpkins, collect candy. Wayzata's basically turned Halloween into an endurance sport, and we're not mad about it.
Bottom Line: Certified races, costume contests, and downtown trick-or-treating. Halloween just became a full-day event.
Get all the details and register at boobashdash.com – because "I ran a 5K in a superhero costume" is an excellent conversation starter.

Plymouth Wants to Know What You Actually Think (And This Time, Everyone's Invited)
Remember those 4,000 lucky households that got mailed the Plymouth community survey? Plot twist: now everyone can weigh in.
The Deal: Plymouth's opened up its community survey to all residents through Tuesday, Oct. 14. Translation: if you have opinions about city services, parking, potholes, or literally anything Plymouth-related, now's your chance to make them official.
Why This Matters: The city surveys residents every three years (last rounds: 2022 and 2019) to track how things are actually going beyond the loudest voices at city council meetings. It's data-driven decision making instead of "someone complained, so we're reacting" governance.
The Partnership: Plymouth teamed up with Polco/the National Research Center to run this thing properly – meaning your feedback will actually get compiled, analyzed, and presented to City Council at a future meeting. Then it goes live at plymouthmn.gov/survey for everyone to see.
What You're Rating: City service satisfaction, basically everything Plymouth does that touches your daily life. Parks, roads, public safety, snow removal – if the city handles it, they want to know how they're doing.
Bottom Line: Two weeks to tell Plymouth exactly what you think. No randomization required this time.
Take the survey before Oct. 14 – because complaining at dinner parties is less effective than actual data.

Wayzata's Getting a Surprise Flower Ambush (And You Should Probably Be Downtown Oct. 15)
Picture this: You're walking down Lake Street minding your business, and suddenly someone hands you flowers. No catch, no sales pitch – just free happiness in bouquet form.
The Mission: Candlelight Floral & Gifts is staging a flower ambush on Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., handing out mini-bouquets to random people in downtown Wayzata. Last year, they distributed 2,000 bouquets. This year? They're doing it again because apparently, making strangers smile is addictive.
The Catch (There's Always a Catch): You get TWO bouquets – one to keep, one to give away. The goal is to keep the happiness chain going and flood social media with #petalitforward posts. It's like a pyramid scheme, but instead of losing money, you just feel good about yourself.
The Science Bit: Research says flowers actually reduce stress and anxiety. And giving flowers makes 88% of people happy, while receiving them makes 80% happy. So basically, this event is scientifically engineered joy.
Your Move: Be on Lake Street between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Oct. 15. Accept free flowers. Give one away. Post it. Feel smugly wholesome for the rest of the day.
Bottom Line: Free flowers, mandatory kindness, social media bragging rights. Wayzata's turning Wednesday into a happiness experiment.
Follow Aboutflowers.com for more info, or just show up downtown and let the flower people find you.
