📢 TALK OF THE TOWN

Story Time at Old Town Hall Brings Plymouth’s Past to Life for Young Readers
📍 Tuesdays, July 8 – August 26 | 10:00–10:30 AM | 3605 Fernbrook Ln N
This summer, kids can travel back in time without ever leaving town.
The Plymouth History Center is hosting a free weekly Story Time at Old Town Hall series designed for families with elementary-aged children. Held every Tuesday morning from July 8 through August 26, these 30-minute sessions blend local history with interactive learning — all inside one of Plymouth’s oldest buildings.
Each week features a new historical topic, such as:
The origins of the Fourth of July
Life on the prairie
Dakota and Ojibwe history
Farming, railroads, and the journey of Lewis and Clark
...and much more.
After the story, kids will get hands-on with themed activities that bring the lesson to life.
“History is all about storytelling and passing down insights to future generations,” says Ryan Barland, Plymouth’s Historical Site Coordinator. “With the reopening of Old Town Hall, we’re excited to create a space where kids can learn about the past in a fun, engaging way.”
No registration is required, and the events are free and open to the public.
About Old Town Hall
Originally built in 1885 as Plymouth’s town hall, this historic gem now serves as a local hub for storytelling, research, and reflection. Open to the public Tuesdays and Thursdays (11 AM–2 PM) and the first Saturday of each month, Old Town Hall features:
Rotating exhibits
A research room with newspapers, yearbooks & documents
Audio space for oral history projects
Historic photos and models
A detailed timeline of Plymouth’s growth
Whether you’re a curious kid or a lifelong local, Story Time at Old Town Hall is a great way to connect with the stories that shaped the community.
